Last month, I was running a half-marathon in Lake Tahoe.
Toward the end of the race, my son broke away from my wife and ran onto the marathon course screaming, “Dada Dada!!!!”
It was my perfect moment.
I was so exhausted from running in the altitude, that if i wasn’t completely present and focused on the race, I would collapse.
And it was entirely unexpected. Toddlers have no place on a race course, but there he was!
It was GLORIOUS.
I want more of these moments. Who doesn’t?
It seems like the really awesome family moments and memories are harder and harder to come by.
Most of our days are consumed with the grind of working, parenting, finding our way.
There’s that constant blur of diapers and dirty dishes, airport security lines and commutes to the office, long meetings and conference calls, etc
And then, we get home at night, and that grind seeps into our family time. Instead of forgetting about your busy day and sharing in the few moments you have together with your loved ones…
…everyone sort of goes off to their corner.
As one parent described, “Even efforts to watch the same movie at the same time, go nowhere. We gradually migrate to polar ends of the couch, where we balance our laptops and iPads on the arm of the couch, then cyber-indulge during the entire movie.”
